INSPIRATIONS

Katerina was born and raised in Switzerland and she spent her childhood summers on her mother’s birth island in the Greek Aegean Sea.

Her work is inspired by the Greek island architecture and landscapes.  The traditional white washed humble island house with its simple and minimalist aesthetics has been influencing her designs.  Mediterranean trees such as the olive, pomegranate, fig, and lemon and Mediterranean shrubs such as the rosemary and lavender are often incorporated into the gardens she creates.

Switzerland’s modern architecture has also been a major influence in Katerina’s work.  Switzerland with its limited space has immense respect for natural resources and creates simple but innovative art forms.  The buildings and outside spaces have to fit into their environment and must fulfill a purpose.

PHILOSOPHY

We need to embrace the environment we are in and need to understand which materials and plants are in harmony with its surroundings.  Less is more!  Katerina encourages her clients to conserve water, use drought tolerant plants, plant edible gardens and fruit trees.  Whatever she creates needs to fulfill a purpose, create harmony and bring joy.

BACKGROUND

Earned Matura degree from Switzerland in 1995. Admitted to study architecture at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich) in the fall of 1995.

Graduated cum laude from SDSU in 1999.

Before returning to school in 2008 to pursue her dream to design and create environments for people, she worked as a financial analyst.  First for a consulting firm creating financial models for commercial litigation cases and later for Kyocera Wireless Communications.

Earned A.S.  in Landscape Architecture in 2014.

ASLA (American Society for Landscape Architects) member.

​APLD (Association of Professional Landscape Designers) member.

Fluent in English, German, Greek and French.

Currently working as a landscape designer creating residential outdoor living spaces and working towards becoming a licensed landscape architect.
